Watch: Zirkzee coy when asked about remaining in Italy – “I don’t know”

Following the Netherlands’ 2-1 win over Turkey last night, Joshua Zirkzee was asked about his future in an interview. More specifically, he was asked about the possibility of staying in Italy for next season and the answer was coy, to say the least.

Zirkzee has been heavily linked with Milan in the last few weeks as they are willing to pay the €40m release clause. However, Man Utd have also entered the race and after holding talks with the player’s agent, they will soon make a final decision.

In short, the Dutchman’s future is rather uncertain as things stand. Speaking to SportItalia after the crucial 2-1 win against Turkey, securing a semi-final ticket, Zirkzee was asked about staying in Italy next season but didn’t give much away.

“Stay in Italy? Eh I don’t know, we’ll see. 50-50 chance? I don’t know,” he said with a smile on his face.

Milan have also set their sights on Alvaro Morata, according to the latest reports, and perhaps he will be the No.9 instead of Zirkzee. There is no doubt, however, that the Euros have made things difficult for the Rossoneri and things should be more clear after the tournament.

  1. Who’s employing whom Joshua? Do you work for Kia? Put your big boy pants on and tell him where you want to be…if it’s Manchester fine, but you make that decision

    1. He wears the pants but he believes in his agent getting the maximum of the situation. Either we succumb and pay, which I hope we don’t, or MU pays more and he gets an access to the premier league. He is not losing any way from his perspective.

I’m sure big portion of this 15m commission will go to the player, so he is basically looking for the bigger signing bonus.

  2. Yes yes let’s see when Milan’s attack is lead by a 32 y old striker again for the next 3 years until the next over 30 guy comes around. All the respect to Morata but in any top team he would be rotation striker- that’s the reason he’s looking a way out of Atletico because obv he’s not gonna be a starter.. This management should quit the big talk and just say in straight words that the reality of Milan is 20 mil players max for the next years and be done with it

  3. Anyone got any news on Gonçalo Ramos? That name has gone quiet. Portugal need to replace Ronaldo and he is the obvious choice but isn’t starting for psg….surely there’s a conversation to be had there

    1. Yes, somehow I have faith in Okafor. It is just his bad luck having head coaches (Pioli and Yakin) who don’t put a trust on him even though he performed really well for limited minutes.
Not all teams have “traditional big guy 9” in the 4-3-3 system. Iirc, Man City (prior Haland arrival) and Arsenal relied on someone like more like Okafor’s type as front man. Germany NT also put Havertz as their number 9. And also not all traditional 9 can perform good with single 9 system. Such as Thuram, somehow I am not sure he can perform as good as the duet with Martinez, if he is single striker. Just saying it all depends on the coach who he can formulate his squad.
