Noah Okafor of AC Milan

GdS: What Milan want from a winger signing and why Okafor can leave

AC Milan are looking to potentially revamp their wide options in attack and it could see Noah Okafor leave the club as early as January.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport report this morning, Milan are thinking about signing a new winger with targets in Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga. The reason? Samu Chukwueze and Okafor have disappointed so far this season due to injuries, form and just not being what Paulo Fonseca wants.

Christian Pulisic had the starting spot on the right last season but Fonseca moved him to the centre of the three-man attack behind the striker, so he can move in two directions and give a hand in the build-up phase.

If a new winger arrives, the idea is to sign a player who knows how to play in tight spaces, read situations quickly but also give a hand in defence, to ensure there is balance on the right side.

There is one condition: the sale of a player must happen first, to free up a spot in the squad and also bring in some money. Chukwueze and Okafor are candidates, perhaps more the Swiss because he already has admirers in the German Bundesliga and the English Premier League.

    1. What impact did they have when we finished second which would make them good enough to stay and be starters? Chukweuze and Okafor are 2 very inconsistent players and most of the times confused on what to do with the ball.

          1. @ Lando Is 2nd to 8th an ‘improvement’?

Is 1st to 8th an ‘improvement’?

Is Pioli to Fonseca an ‘improvement’?

Are the umpteen players we’ve signed since we won the Scudetto an ‘improvement’?

It’s scepticism of change rather than opposition to it.

I’ve been calling for Fonseca to be sacked for months.

Oh and probably better to go for big, impactful change rather than playing around the edges.

As if changing some squad player is going to turn us into champions.

      1. Herein lies the problem. Not everyone can start. Not everyone is a starting caliber player (of sufficient quality of course). Okafor did very well along with Jovic as backups. A nice 10 goal contributions from each of them. What more do people want? If you want a substitute that’s at the level of a starter then he’s no longer sub is he?

Also, last year under Pioli these guys performed decent enough AS BACKUPS. They did the job and quite a few occasions were game winners. This season under this new coach they’re atrocious ….and I don’t think it has to do with the players. Fonseca has barely any reliable subs and last year’s reliable subs are no longer reliable this year.

    2. For January, at least try to sign Samuele Ricci and a left-footed back up for Theo. Parisi or Gallo are decent options.

Keep the rest of the squad, bar one or two like Jovic, until the end of the season. Only then decide who to keep or sell, based on their performance

  1. If there is no clear upgrade ready to sign, then don’t sell. We’re having a bad enough injury crisis as is. If there isn’t an obvious and immediate upgrade then what’s the point?

  2. Okafor is a decent BACKUP. Not a starter. The idiots on here who screamed he could replace Leao or could be our starting #9 – are just that: idiots

If we can sell and upgrade fine, but with the limited $$ we will allocate to a backup I doubt we can find a cheaper alternative. Another French youth player with no experience is my guess.

Chukuweze is a BUST and a complete waste of 28M….wow

  3. Still miles better and more impactful than Chuk. But they won’t sell Chuk just yet as Gerry’s wants his “extraordinary return” on his most expensive transfer of 2023 summer.

    1. Shame and wanting to do better than Maldini are the reasons why he hasn’t been sold as yet or in the convo as one of the worse signings but that they’re “waiting to see his potential fulfilled”. They’re certain the algorithms are algorithm-ing with that one.

  4. What impact did they have when we finished second which would make them good enough to stay and be starters? Chukweuze and Okafor are 2 very inconsistent players and most of the times confused on what to do with the ball.

  5. We can all see, in each game how Chukwueze and Okafor can’t compete on stronger level.

Chukwueze made so mane mistakes by passing to defence. He can’t pass one on one.

And Okafor missed so many sitters. We could won 4 more points if he scored those chances.

Sale is logical, in terms of bidding for them. So risking to bring some new fresh faces, is necessary.
