As is now a seemingly yearly occurrence each April, there is talk of who AC Milan’s head coach will be heading into next season.
La Gazzetta dello Sport begin with an important premise: the underlying intention, on everyone’s part, is to move forward together. The project has just begun, the contract is potentially extendable until 2029, because the respect and trust are mutual.

That said, Massimiliano Allegri’s future at Milan isn’t a completely predictable path, free of potential surprises. He’s among the potential candidates to revive Italian football as the head coach, a prospect that – considering his current relationship with the Rossoneri – is not insignificant.
In the coming weeks, the manager will seek to secure as much certainty as possible from the Rossoneri. Strategies, the transfer campaign, shared goals and influence will all be spoken about. If sufficient guarantees are available, Allegri will remain at Milanello because that is the priority.
What if he leaves?
The club, however, is well aware that this is the most likely scenario, but not the certain one. And so, inevitably, some questions are starting to arise. It’s not a matter of jotting down names, but of starting to understand where the path might take if Allegri were to become the next Azzurri coach.
It’s a very complex scenario to outline now, especially with the main seasonal objective still to be achieved. So we’re inevitably left in the realm of hypotheses, one of which would lead to Vincenzo Italiano.
As the saying goes: sometimes they come back. The Bologna coach had been linked with AC Milan as early as 2024, after Stefano Pioli’s departure, but especially last year. He had been on the Rossoneri’s radar for some time, and the Coppa Italia final win boosted his candidacy.
Last summer, at one point, Italiano seemed very close to joining, but then he chose to remain faithful to the Rossoblu project. There’s nothing stopping Milan from trying again, though he is tied to Bologna until 2027 (for €3m) and is happy in Emilia.
An added incentive might come from the fact that Bologna would be playing in Europe, while the Emilians are unlikely to succeed. So, if Italiano were to reject the Rossoneri again, what are the other names?
Gian Piero Gasperini (whose fate at Roma remains unclear) is one, as is Roberto Mancini (who would love to return to Europe). Thiago Motta (who has also been linked to Milan in the past) could be in the mix, while there would be fans who push for Simone Inzaghi too.

Simone Inzaghi makes more sense to me. He plays very attacking football and he has won more trophies than all the other coaches.
Yes, but Milan doesn’t have the players. If he signs Milan has to sign LWB and a proper RWB. With players here Inzaghi can’t even try to play his football. Who will attack on the left, Estupinan, Bartesaghi? On the right? WIll Saelemakers defend properly if he plays this position? No. You people expect attacking football with players that can’t do this.
Milan ALSO doesn’t have the players to play the football that Allegri, Gasperini and Italiano likes to play.
So regardless if Allegri stays or goes, regardless of which ever coach replaces him if he leaves we will have to sign players.
Simone Inzaghi plays counter attacking football and his team is also good defensively. Pavlovic would do well under Inzaghi.
I read an article that stated that if Allegri stays he wants to build the team around Pavlovic, De Winter, Gabbia, Rabiot, Salaemakers, Pulisic, Athekame and Bartesaghi.
So Allegri doesn’t even want the majority of the players currently in the team.
Yea but the problem is, Milan management doesn’t buy players to strengthen a coach’s plans – only players to flip at a profit. So it doesn’t matter who comes – they will never be properly backed.
That’s why I say it’s a massive overachievement by Allegri to have his team where it currently is.
Absurd take. Milan do not only buy players to flip for profit. If they did Leao would have been sold a year or two ago, he would’ve brought in the most money. They would have sold Maignan instead of resigning him. Modric, Rabiot… not flippable players. Every club buys and sells players. Some work out , some don’t.
And saying a top 4 with this squad is an overachievement is crazy. There are not 4 clubs in Serie A with a stronger squad than Milan. Top 4 is the bare minimum they should achieve with this squad. With no European play whatsoever… Getting knocked out of the Copa Italia and Super copa early on. This is impressive to you?
Jurgen Klopp coach AC Milan
Relax bro. Allegri already confirm that he will commitment to milan
Xabi Alonso could make good use of Modric and Jashari.
I don’t think Allegri will be leaving, especially if we manage to secure a UCL spot next season.
No thanks to Thiago Motta, who took over after Allegri in Juventus and was sacked before the end of the season.
No thanks to Gaspereni who didn’t have success anywhere besides Atalanta and who will make us Inter’s b!tch all over again.
Not sure I’m super eager either about Italiano or Mancini.
IMO the ones who can replace Allegri assuming he leaves are either Simeone Inzaghi or Xabi Alonso.
No thanks to Motta, not thanks to Gasperini, who has done nothing when given the chance at a big club (see Inter and now Roma), and no thanks to Inzaghi, who won’t be able to replicate what he did at Inter. Don’t know what to make of Mancini, TBH.
Maresca or Italiano for me, and give them the players for 4-3-3/4-2-3-1, which basically means a no. 9 (needed anyway), one backup winger (Nkunku can stay as the other backup), a tob CB (Kim?), and a proper RB for Saelemaekers. Maybe Farioli, if we can pry him away from Porto, but he may be too defensive, like Allegri.
This media onslaught is very predictable and happens every time Milan is in a pickle. What happens if this, what happens if that…
I said after the Udine result that Milan management needs to come out and shield the team and coach by putting all this speculation to rest. But did they?
Crickets……..
