Giornale: Why Calabria’s time at Milan is heading for a sad ending and where he could go

Davide Calabria has spent over 15 years at AC Milan, but it seems increasingly likely that he is heading into his last few months, if he even stays that long.

As Il Giornale (via MilanNews) point out this morning, Calabria’s contract expires next June and at the moment there doesn’t seem to be any chance of a renewal. It seems more a case of when and not if the departure will occur.

The Milan captain would like to say goodbye at the end of the season, while the directors wouldn’t mind a sale in January so as to obtain a small amount to invest immediately in the winter transfer campaign.

Calabria is admired by Como, Galatasaray and some Saudi clubs which means that he might well have a choice when it comes to where his future is. Sadly for the boyhood Milan fan, though, it seems his beloved club have no intention of keeping him.

This is not an easy season for the 28-year-old who has been overtaken in the pecking order by Emerson Royal, now the undisputed starter on the right. Out of 11 league appearances, the Italian has been a starter just twice (in the first two Serie A matches against Torino and Parma in August).

  1. Might as well sell him for 1-5m even though he’s worth 8-15m it will bring in a bit of money and it’s better than nothing in the summer and will clear up some wage space

    1. Calabria is one amoung many players who couldn’t be able to going forward with play, but unfortunately they gradually downgraded themselves.

Calabria, Tomori, Kalulu, Pobega, Bennacer with his injuries, and the latest one – Theo Hernandez.

From new arrivals we can see how Ruben Loftus and Chukwueze with Okafor, are next to mentioned, who could leave Milan.
Problem is big. Milan needs result. Specially in this season in Serie A. If one Terracciano can perform something, then you expect much from Calabria.

You are right for Emerson Royal, but that will change eventually.

    1. I’d rather have Royal leave first than Calabria. And let’s not pretend that our management is going for good players to replace him. Also we need Italians, so Kayode might do it but not sure for Dodô.
Also, Calabria leaving means either one of Leao or Theo would be captain, do we really want that ?

    1. Ted – agree 100% with what you write except for one point. You call those running milan “drunken chimps” — please give them their proper title, will you? THEY ARE DRUNKEN CHIMPANZEES … that makes it clearer and avoids all doubts.

  2. This cursed milan ownership and management operate on one single principle – kick out those who should stay and keep those who should be kicked out asap.
