Mike Maignan is very likely to leave AC Milan before the start of the season, with a renewal declining in possibility.
During the summer transfer window, Maignan was reportedly hoping to join Chelsea before the Club World Cup but no transfer fee was agreed with Milan. In the end the Frenchman stayed, which pleased the head coach Massimiliano Allegri, who made the goalkeeper captain.

All this did was prolong the issue though, and now a more daunting crossroads is approaching. Maignan’s deal expires this summer and there has been no positive news about him signing an extension with Milan. Instead, the stories have been about Chelsea potentially trying again.
Maignan expected to leave
The latest, from Matteo Moretto (via MilanNews): “At Casa Milan, one of the main topics is the future of Milan’s goalkeeper. Maignan’s contract expires in June: negotiations for his renewal are currently cold and, I dare say, frozen or blocked.
“The feeling is that this could be Maignan’s last year at Milan. The possibility that he could leave in January, with an offer lower than his value, or in June on a free transfer is an increasingly growing feeling.
“Relations between Maignan’s agent and Milan are very cold: in February they had reached a verbal agreement until 2028 for the renewal, including a contract adjustment. Then, Milan decided to put everything on hold, partly for sporting reasons and partly for economic reasons.
“The player then decided to open up to a permanent farewell, so much so that he had said yes to Chelsea even though the agreement between the clubs was not reached. To date, the chances of Maignan renewing remain very, very low.
“The most plausible scenario is that that Maignan could leave in January or June. Milan must protect itself and is already having some initial ideas of goalkeepers who could potentially inherit Maignan’s role.”
Though no names are mentioned, Lorenzo Torriani is an internal option while the journalist has named Zion Suzuki of Parma before.

Maignan has two bad seasons in a row. In shot stopping, Maignan ranked only 15th in Serie A last season.
If Chelsea sign him for big bucks, they will discover that Maignan is not much better than their current error prone GK Robert Sanchez
Stats are often quite misleading. Last year our defenders with the exception of Gabbia played worse than some relegated teams. He is prone to some mistakes but he also catches twice as many 99% goals that only a few keepers could save. Keepers are always criticized for their mistakes and overlooked for their critical saves. I hope we continue to improve and he sees a chance for next season to fight for titles and glory. Nothing else can make him stay after their miserable contract negotiation failure. We can find a good replacement but I am attached to him and will support him wherever he goes.
He had two bad seasons in every way. By the measure of the eye and data. Not to mention constant injuries.
Hopefully the next goalkeeper won’t be a tree rooted on the goal line that refuses to move from it, especially on crosses in the 6 yard box.
Honestly hes a good leader and real professional, but the past two seasons were bad compared to when he first came. Add in the constant injuries and I wouldn’t be upset if he ended up staying or leaving. Doesn’t give me the safe feeling he once upon a time did
promote Torriani to starting keeper – he’s been phenomenal whenever given the chance.
