Fisayo Dele-Bashiru

Why Fisayo Dele-Bashiru could be an ideal signing for AC Milan

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, a 24-year-old Nigerian midfielder, is currently plying his trade for Lazio, but he’s been making waves in Serie A with his performances.

The former Manchester City trainee stands at just over 6’0 tall and combines physical ability with technical skill, making him a candidate for Milan’s midfield. As the rebuild continues at Milan, adding a player like Dele-Bashiru could be a masterstroke.

Dynamic ball progression

Dele-Bashiru’s ability to carry the ball forward is exceptional. He has the dribbling skills and agility to navigate through tight spaces, transitioning play from defence to attack seamlessly. This attribute is crucial for a team like Milan, with an emphasis on quick transitions and fluid attacking plays.

His proficiency in advancing the ball would add a new dimension to Milan’s midfield, complementing the playmakers already in place and providing more options in the buildup.

Milan have also struggled against teams that sit deep in a low block, relying on quick movement and individual brilliance to break through stubborn backlines. Dele-Bashiru’s direct running and ability to move past players would make him an invaluable asset against these teams that sit in.

Goals from midfield

During his time with Hatayspor during the 2023/24 season, Dele-Bashiru emerged as the club’s joint-top scorer, registering eight goals in the Super Lig. This goal-scoring ability from midfield would make him a valuable asset for Milan, with an additional threat in the final third.

He has the knack of arriving late in the box and finishing chances, and this would alleviate the goal-scoring burden from Milan’s forwards.

With players like Rafael Leao and Christian Pulisic able to draw defenders wide, it would open spaces centrally for Dele-Bashiru to exploit. He’s also developing a reputation for being a goalscorer from range, which would make him even harder to defend against for opponents.

Tactical versatility

Under the guidance of manager Sergio Conceicao, Milan have adopted a flexible approach, often utilising formations like 3-2-5 and 2-3-5 in attacking phases. The system demands midfielders to be versatile, and Dele-Bashiru’s experience in various roles will allow him to adapt seamlessly to different tactical setups.

Whether as a central midfielder driving forward or an attacking player linking play, Dele-Bashiru’s versatility would be invaluable in executing Conceicao’s dynamic game plans. His presence would provide Milan with greater tactical flexibility.

Potential and European ambitions

At 24, Dele-Bashiru is at a pivotal stage in his career. Joining Milan would provide him with the platform to develop further. His current trajectory suggests he has a high ceiling, and integrating into Milan’s setup could unlock his full potential, benefitting both the player and the club.

With Milan competing in the Champions League, Dele-Bashiru being a part of their squad moving forward could enhance their chances of success in Europe. Champions League betting odds suggest Milan are strong contenders in European competitions, but to truly challenge the best, squad depth and midfield dynamism are crucial. Dele-Bashiru’s arrival would certainly help on this front and in Serie A, too.
