Massimiliano Allegri’s request for AC Milan to sign a new starting striker could have a big impact on the future of Santiago Gimenez.
According to Tuttosport, Gimenez is not 100% certain of staying at Milan, despite the fact that he only arrived a few months ago. The Mexican was the big signing of the winter mercato as the Rossoneri paid €32m plus €3m in bonuses to snatch him from Feyenoord.

It was a sizeable investment but only partial satisfaction followed on the field, with six goals and three assists in all competitions but a long goal drought in there and also some physical problems.
On various occasions the head coach Sergio Conceicao preferred Luka Jovic and Tammy Abraham. Those two will not be part of Allegri’s Milan: the Serbian will leave on a free transfer (no contract renewal), while the Englishman will return to Roma to be diverted elsewhere.
Gimenez in doubt?

I really think we should give Colombo a chance as back up, he scores some good goals and would cost us very little in wages, another loan will prove nothing, give the boy a chance, Gimenez, Immobile and Colombo back up.

Colombo always scores 7-8 goals for relegation sides, and I think he’d have another 3-4 playing with our first team. 12 goals in Serie A is not bad for a backup, then Immobile can be the veteran no. 3 option. As to Gimenez, I think the jury is still out. Would I get rid of him for Vlahovic? I’m not sure, particularly given the latter’s massive salary. But would I move Gimenez for Retegui? Yes. Even Scamacca, if Atalanta would rather sell him, or Lucca. But I would also give Gimenez a proper preseason and full season to see what he can do.
Let’s see those droughts with those who are mentioned as top strikers. Retegui scored 25 goals – a goal every 94 minutes which is great, but he had a drought of 16 matches neither goal nor assist. Bearing in mind that he did not play two matches due to injury, that is almost half of the matches in Seria A. Vlahović: 18 games without a goal or assist. Considering that he didn’t play 9 games, that’s almost 70% of the games. Whoever is pushing this story about Gimenez is not a Milan fan, and if Allegri really wants this then he is back to touch us after Pirlo and Matra.
If Allegri plays like we have seen in Juventus there is no point for Gimenez. Gimenez makes sense only with a team that plays attacking football in which he can focus on the last 30 meters. He is not a striker with a hold-up play and ball-carrying ability. Nunez would be perfect for it.
What a mess, I doubt this story and it’s legitimacy. Allegri has not even accessed these players in preseason and wants them out, wtf.
Did the management consider all this before hiring him. How do you make a 35m investment in a player in January and want to replace him in the summer window. Im thinking Alegri wants a target man like Giroud, Ibra. So Gimenez playing style is not like that. Thats why they look for another striker. Gimenez would be great in more free flowing footbal like in Barca. Maybe Alegri should adjust his tactics. Also i agree that Colombo should be given a chance as a back up if Jovic is leaving.
