Massimiliano Allegri’s request for AC Milan to sign a new starting striker could have a big impact on the future of Santiago Gimenez.

According to Tuttosport, Gimenez is not 100% certain of staying at Milan, despite the fact that he only arrived a few months ago. The Mexican was the big signing of the winter mercato as the Rossoneri paid €32m plus €3m in bonuses to snatch him from Feyenoord.
It was a sizeable investment but only partial satisfaction followed on the field, with six goals and three assists in all competitions but a long goal drought in there and also some physical problems.
On various occasions the head coach Sergio Conceicao preferred Luka Jovic and Tammy Abraham. Those two will not be part of Allegri’s Milan: the Serbian will leave on a free transfer (no contract renewal), while the Englishman will return to Roma to be diverted elsewhere.
Gimenez in doubt?
With the young Francesco Camarda and Lorenzo Colombo destined to go elsewhere on loan, it becomes necessary for the Rossoneri to find another centre-forward on the market. And so far, everything is according to plan.
It is no coincidence that in recent days the Milan management have tested the waters for the various Mateo Retegui (Atalanta), Darwin Nunez (Liverpool) and Dusan Vlahovic (Juventus). All names of high level, however, and who would arrive at Milanello to be starters.
Translated: at that point, Santi would end up on the bench as a luxury alternative, with the risk of playing little, given that Milan will not be competing in European competitions. This is the reason why Gimenez’s entourage could listen to the interest coming from other clubs.
The possible movements could see a big name arrive and Gimenez leave, with someone like Ciro Immobile (proposed in the last few hours) perhaps acting as a reserve striker. This is a more plausible scenario than having a €35m centre-forward sat on the bench.
