Di Marzio: Why Kjaer will miss Fiorentina clash despite recovering from injury

By Isak Möller -

Simon Kjaer has been unavailable since the end of October, struggling with a muscle injury like many of his teammates. However, despite recovery from the injury, the Dane will not be called up for AC Milan’s game against Fiorentina.

It has been a tough start to the season for the 34-year-old, missing five games due to injury and playing just three from start. Muscle fatigue has been a big problem for him lately and he really needs to put the short but frequent stops behind him.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Kjaer has recovered from his muscle injury but is still experiencing some discomfort when accelerating. It’s normal for a player to feel like that during the ‘regaining game condition phase’, even if he has disposed of the initial injury.

As a result, Pioli has decided to exclude him from the Milan-Fiorentina squad. Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori will be the starting centre-backs. There are no direct replacements for them, though, other than perhaps Davide Calabria and Davide Bartesaghi.

It remains to be seen if the centre-back Jan-Carlo Simic will be added to the squad, as Milan’s Primavera will play tomorrow as well. He’s a very important player for Ignazio Abate’s side and most likely, he will not be called up by Pioli. Especially since Francesco Camarda will be.

  1. Considering Italians have the longest bench of all the leagues i know of it would be plain stupid not to put simic on it. Lecce had 15 people on the bench last game

    1. He most certainly would be playing for his main team, the Primavera as they also have a game same day, he would only be on the bench for the Rossoneri, why not play for a team where he is important
