FirenzeViola: Why Milan and Fiorentina could complete a convenient summer swap

AC Milan and Fiorentina will soon discuss the futures of Yacine Adli and Riccardo Sottil, and a report has claimed that a swap deal is possible.

As FirenzeViola recall, a few hours before the closing gong of the winter transfer window, Fiorentina  let Sottil go to Milan on a paid loan with an option to buy that is set at €10m. It is a figure equal to the buy-out option that La Viola have for Adli, who joined in the summer.

There are several reasons that Sottil could remain at Milan, despite not being used so extensively due to the presence of other top players in the side. There is an ’emotional’ factor given that he grew up a Milan fan, as well as his versatility and his status as a homegrown player.

Meanwhile, despite a few too many physical problems (especially in the ankle area), Adli has still given his contribution for Fiorentina, also scoring a few goals. The fact that the two options to make the deals permanent was set at the same price could therefore very much be by design.

The two clubs could think about a straight swap at the end of the season, when the time to decide comes. However, Adli did state in an interview yesterday that he is not closing the door on returning to Milan.

“My goal is to finish the season in the best way possible and take Fiorentina as high as possible, then we’ll see what happens at the end of the season,” he said.

“Of course, Milan are a big club, I spent two extraordinary years where I became very attached to the club, but Fiorentina are also giving me a lot. So we’ll see what happens at the end of the season. Now I’m just thinking about winning games and bringing something important here to Florence.”

  1. I like Sottil but what exactly has he shown that makes him worth sacrificing Adli for?
I think Adli is showing a lot more promise as a player, and he has proven his absolut worth for Milan in the past, unlike Sottil. Furthermore, Adli is unique as a midfielder, so he would be a good depth option. Meanwhile, Sottil is just your typical average winger who can’t get past his man…

    1. It is just way of cooking the books.
So, Fiorentina wouldn’t gave Milan 10 million, for Adli, but agree with Milan Sotil sale for 10 million.
In reality no one will gave the money it will be shown in books like 2 sales so Milan will show capital gain around 8 million.
Sottil is Italian so it will extend list for Serie A next season plus it will leave more space for Okafor sale or next loan.

    2. “sacrificing”?

What exactly are we sacrificing? Adli was a master of none. not particularly stellar at any one department… I’m not saying Sottil is a better option since he doesn’t even get to play, but Adli isn’t exactly a savior.

      1. Adli has vision and passing on a level abover all our DM options currently. Unlike everyone else, he actively seeks out the ball and actually tries to control the game. None of our midfield options can do that. He is growing a lot at Fiorentina, and he loves Milan more than most. It would be a sacrifice to give him up for an alibi player like Sottil

  2. He’s nothing but another fringe player for regulations, same as Terracciano. They’re buying fringe Italians so they can waste money on a bunch of foreign could bees. And folks here dream of Ricci. Lmao.

  3. Of the Italians, only Barella, Tonali and Bastoni are worth it, while the others are expensive and average. Cairo will not release Ricci below 40 million, and is he worth that money? I don’t think it’s worth it that a top foreign player can be bought for that money. I’ve had enough of Montolivo, Poli, Bertolacci and Bonaventura.

    1. Yeah, I don’t get why some fans want players just for being Italian? 9/10 times we can get a better foreign player for cheaper money. There is a reason why the Italian National team is so inconsistent right now, and we don’t need that at Milan. Unless we are buying the proven and established stars like the ones you mention, then it’s not worth it unless we need some for registration purposes…
