Paulo Fonseca appears likely to rely on Yunus Musah for today’s game against Empoli, giving him his first consecutive starts of the season.
As Corriere dello Sport (via MilanPress) report this morning, Musah will be one of the tactical keys again. Fonseca views him as an important utility man given he can raise and lower the American’s position depending on the needs of a match.
In essence, Musah could push up to be part of the attacking trident that will support the striker Alvaro Morata, meaning he would play alongside his compatriot Christian Pulisic. However, he can also drop into a wing-back position or even tuck in to form a midfield three.
In the non-possession phase, we could see the Rossoneri therefore switch from 4-2-3-1 to 4-3-3 with Youssouf Fofana and Tijjani Reijnders as the other starters in the middle of the park. Thus, Fonseca can manage the needs of the game as it happens.
For the former Valencia man, it is expected to be the second consecutive match as a starter. It has not happened to him yet this season, and it is a nice way to celebrate his birthday given that he turned 22 years of age yesterday.
Considering he offers absolutely nothing going forward, except losing the ball, how is he gonna support Morata?
And royal from start again. He should play calabria. Empoli is just the right team for him to get some much needed minutes in. Or terracciano.
Royal hasn’t shown anything in 1000 minutes played but backpassing.
“Considering he offers absolutely nothing going forward, except losing the ball, how is he gonna support Morata?”
My thoughts exactly. He makes even Saelemaekers look like Messi in the attacking zone. So we’re definitely relying today on Leao & Pulisic. More than ever.
Never thought I’d miss saladmaker. But yeah in this fonseca way of doing things he’d be an asset
Now Acmilan should not allow Theo Hernandez and Emerson should run with ball into the box and fire a short to score goals but if Theo find himself in the wing he should give leao the pass then leao should score if Emerson gets in the wing he should pass to musah to score while any chance from counter Reijnder or Fofana should please release the ball to Morata for him to score why the central defence should be playing a long pass finding their players inside their opponents field with that we have weak those opponent and score more goals find consistency.
The key tactical role for Musha will be do nothing on defence except giving the ball away to Empoli, so that they can score goals on counter-attack and he has no skills to help anybody offensively.
The tactical role of Musah against Empoli would probably be to confuse the opposition as he is always confused himself.
They can’t know his next move, as he essentially doesn’t know his next move.
And with the royal Emerson behind him, the right flank will be A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!
