AC Milan have won five of their last six games and this has led to a change in the consensus regarding Sergio Conceicao, a report claims.
MilanNews begin a report by revealing the results of a survey they conducted which found that 54% of fans side with Conceicao, who can win a second trophy on Wednesday night and has plenty of alibis in terms of why things haven’t gone perfectly.

Conceiçao’s numbers
In 28 games, Conceiçao has achieved 15 wins, 5 draws and 8 defeats with an average of 1.79 points per game. In terms of the league, he has 10 wins, 3 draws and 6 defeats in 19 games, an average of 1.74 points per game.
Paulo Fonseca’s average was 1.75 overall and 1.59 in Serie A, so there has been an improvement, and he has recently found a balance with the 3-4-3 despite it being a module that by his own admission he doesn’t particularly like.
Since using a three-man defence, five wins and one defeat have arrived, with just three goals conceded. It is a team that has found stability at the back while up front it has recovered seemingly lost players like Luka Jovic and Santiago Gimenez.
Winning the Coppa Italia would mean two trophies in one season, something that hasn’t happened since the 2007-08 season with Carlo Ancelotti on the bench (UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup). The regret of the Champions League remains, as does taking so long to make changes.
The alternatives and the management’s stance
If Conceiçao were to be replaced, it is necessary to have certainties on the bench, and who can bring them? At the moment it is even difficult to talk about replacements, when Milan still chasing a sporting director.
Antonio Conte is the dream and him staying at Napoli is not entirely a given, but Juventus also want him. Maurizio Sarri is another idea, but there are few coaches with Conceiçao’s list of achievements: 11 trophies won with Porto and a constant participation in the Champions League.
Before the league match against Bologna, CEO Giorgio Furlani said: “As soon as he arrived he won a trophy and on Wednesday he can become the first coach since Ancelotti to win two in the same season. Now we are focused on finishing the season in the best possible way, he is working well and we have maximum confidence in him.”
The Portuguese, we recall, has an agreement until June 2026 but there is a clause that provides for the possibility of terminating the relationship a year earlier without having to pay next year’s salary.
The majority of Milan fans are clear about the idea that the main problem is not the coach, but the club. There is a lot of confusion, an unclear command structure and an owner who hasn’t been seen at San Siro since Milan-Venezia on September 14.
There is a sporting director pursuit that has been ongoing for months and is yet to be concluded, so the coach who is often left alone, like the ending of the Fonseca era. In all of this, Conceiçao preferred to gloss over his future: “I’ll speak at the right time.”

I’m not sure that Conceicao is the right manager for us long term, but given that he’s already got a contract until 2026, that he’s found a formation that works and we seem to be finishing the league season well, and if we win the CI, I say keep him on. No point in starting from scratch in the summer in that scenario. Let him have a full preseason, and then if we’re in the top 4 come January extend him right then and there. If we’re struggling just outside the top 4 wait until the summer and if we ultimately miss out let his contract end or if we end up qualifying then make a decision as to keeping him or letting him walk. If instead we’re still mid-table come November, fire him then.

Part of me is curious what a full season with Sergio would be like. He’s got the team playing better in a formation that works.
But part of me is aware that a lot of the mess the team is in is because of his questionable management and tactics.
Could we do better? Of course. Will we do better under the current management? Probably not. So it would be better to stay with Sergio than undergo another change with a new coach that the players may or may not take to.
Remember, Management would never bring in someone elite to coach this team.
Questionable management and tactics. I agree, but if he win the coppa i would keep him. Then he’ll have to start the season well, give us a identity.
No reason to sack him if he wins us the Coppa. Pioli was not that great in his first half season too. And looking at the current standing (and our current form), I think we can fight for that 5-6 position. Not an achievement obv, but a lot honorable than the 8-9th rank.
