With the summer window approaching, reports about interest in AC Milan’s star players are beginning to ramp up again.
As MilanNews write, it is a situation that Milan fans have been used to living for years now but with a bit more ease than this time around. Why? Since Milan returned to being competitive on several fronts, no important player from the first team had been sold in the summer.

This was until Paolo Maldini’s sacking in the summer of 2023, the same one that saw Milan accept an offer from Newcastle United for Sandro Tonali. Leaving aside the issue of the ban, which was evidently a big problem that the Rossoneri avoided, a star was sold abroad for the first time in years.
Does this mean that in previous years the key Milanplayers were off the radar of other important clubs? Absolutely not. The answer was given today by Zvonimir Boban in an interview with Andrea Longoni.
“And the Tonali thing had a big impact, Paolo [Maldini] would never have let him go. We are looking at a difference of 70 million, I don’t know how much specifically. A lot of money but it should never have come to Milan because Tonali shouldn’t have left Milan,” he said.
Reijnders: Another dilemma?
Was it the right or wrong move to sell Tonali? Could the money earned have been invested better? These are all more than legitimate questions and considerations and on which there are many different points of view.
Today the warning signs started going off again because of reports about Manchester City’s concrete interest in Reijnders and Christian Pulisic’s desire to know the club’s plans for next season. Now the time has come for the club to offer assurances.
if you have a minimum of sporting ambition, especially after two seasons in which your eternal city rivals have thrown a Scudetto in your face and have reached a second Champions League final in three years, the best players must be kept.
Not only that, but the stars must be put in the conditions to express themselves at their best, intelligently enriching the player pool that surrounds them. That is most likely what Reijnders and Pulisic will be searching for guarantees about.
From Casa Milan, the line has been coming for years about how the club is healthy, self-sustaining and with accounts that everyone would envy, almost like pioneers of the Italian football movement. Now the much vaunted men of accounts will have to prove that they deserve all this self-praise.
It is easy to remedy the disastrous failure to enter the Champions League, the result of failed sporting choices, by selling the prized pieces. Everyone is capable of doing that. In times of difficulty, the group must be united, those who deserve to be valued must be made responsible and valued.
Reijnders is one of these. Midfielders with 15 goals for the season (and counting) are not common in Europe, selling him would be another own-goal and yet another demonstration that RedBird Capital have not yet understood what it means to own a football club of such stature.

if we’re sticking to the current formation yes but he was exposed badly this season for his defensive frailties, Parma players absolutely embarrassed him in the first game, and honestly his mentality has limitations too. No where captain material but I do feel this was just a bad season for him with all the change
Personally thought that there’s very little chance that we’re going to offload Pulisic (and to certain extend Santi too), considering it’s going to be a World Cup year.
Reijnders is where the resolve would be tested. If Tonali’s money was reinvested into him and he is getting sold too after finally finding his feet (and goals) with us; there’s not gonna be a lot that the ardent Redbird defenders could say then.
Then again, are the rumours valid? Are there really interests in Reijnders? He hit 15 goals this season, yes; but this season is an outlier – he hasn’t scored a double digit in any of the previous season. Was this a breakout season or just a fluke? Of course, as Milan fans, we hope it’s a breakout – but for teams gunning for Champions League; this is a gamble as he’s quite “untested” and probably need another season to “confirm”. Remember how he can’t hit a barn door on this debut season last year? What happened if he can’t adapt quickly to a new team/surrounding? I suppose Milan would also demand in excess of 60-70M for him, which is not a small sum.
I think they both would stay with us; at least for another season. As for Theo/Leao/Maignan, I am not so sure really, probably depending whether they’d sign extensions.
City paid 60M for Gonzalez… Tiji is worth way more… 80-85M is the way to go, anything else just doesn’t make sense

Yeah, because the important players from the first team were leaving the club for free before that. 2 of them will play against each other in the UCL final in couple weeks. Only at Milan selling a first team player is viewed worse than losing first team players for free.
When it comes to Reijnders, it depends on the coach next season, the formation and depends on how much ManCity offers.
If Milan plays 3 midfielders formation, where Reijnders plays his box to box role, keep him, if it’s only a 2 midfielder formation, sell him.
He is great at making runs in the penalty box becoming a scoring threat, but his passing and especially vision are very limited. He often sees too late a passing lane or a run or he is unable to make the pass. That’s why I keep saying that Milan needs a midfielder that can pass the ball not a defensive midfielder. Fofana and Bondo are your defensive midfielders. They’ll look much better when you free them up from initiating the play, just like Kessie looked better when he was asked to just be disruptive defensively.
If ManCity offers something like 80 mil, you better sell him, because he isn’t worth nowhere near that much, Just like with Tonali.
When it comes to Pulisic, he’d be a fool to leave Milan for EPL. He isn’t built for that league. But, he is right to wanna know what the plane of the club are before signing a new contract.
I love how people celebrate Maldini losing 200m worth of talent for free because they can brag that Milan wasnt a “selling club”
Milan lost all those talents because Elliot refused to go beyond the wage limit set by them. Then, even after winning the Scudetto, Redbird refused to open up their wallet to build on the success. Do you expect Maldini to pay with his own money?
Redbird also delayed the contract renewal of Maldini and Massara soon after the Scudetto win, costing us valuable planning time. Today, despite spending more than 200 mil after Maldini left, we are in 8th position, with only a little glimmer of hope of qualifying for CL. That just show Redbird’s incompentence and failure to build on from success. Personally, unlike Maldini, I dont see anything for Redbird to brag about.

Maldini should have had some help in negotiating with the guys who left as free agents. He didn’t have any experience in that department and we lost a chance there to get a lot of money for players there.
Also, selling Tonali was a statement from the leadership. They don’t care about the club other than to make money American style.
We chased Emerson, Chukwueze and Fofana for too long and they don’t fit in or aren’t good enough.
The Musah signing I can understand. He is young and has some good skills so could become a good player to sell in the future. However I am not sure he is smart enough to become that kind of player.
It depends. If you sell a player that is performing well you need to replace him properly. Not buy 7 players and pray one of them is good. If 100M is offered and they can sign Nico Paz and Ricci for example and have another 20M left for transfers it could be ok. But knowing the history it is best we keep Reijnders…
