CorSera: ‘Without the status’ – what Fonseca asks of Leao ahead of Real Madrid-Milan

AC Milan travel to the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday night, and all eyes will be on Rafael Leao who will be keen to make an impression.

This season has probably been Leao’s toughest to date. There have been continued suggestions about his relationship with Paulo Fonseca, and with his output below the level that most expect from him, questions have been asked about his future.

With the winger spending his third game starting on the bench this weekend, there is clearly something wrong, and reports have suggested that he has given his entourage the green light to look for a move away, possibly as early as January.

However, he does not want things to end this way, so if things change at Milan, he will stop looking away. Therefore, if there were to be a catalyst for improving things, playing Real Madrid at the Bernabeu would likely be a fantastic chance to bring change.

Corriere della Sera (via Milan News) writes this morning that Fonseca is looking to start the winger in Spain, but there must be a different attitude. His compatriot expects ‘much more’ from the talent, and expects him to provide his best in a pivotal fixture, without the ‘status’.

There is probably no better chance for a turning point, so Leao must take it with both hands and prove he can be the player the Rossoneri need.
