CorSera: The three candidates Milan could turn to after Iraola setback

AC Milan are looking at alternatives to Andoni Iraola, having not had very positive recent indications from the coach.

Seventy-two hours after Gerry Cardinale ‘s mega-revolution – which saw him fire Giorgio Furlani, Geoffrey Moncada, Igli Tare and Massimiliano Allegri – Milan still haven’t filled a single one of the vacant positions.

They are looking for a new CEO, technical director, sporting director and head coach. In contrast to what usually happens, it seems as though Milan are trying to fill the last vacancy first, then building the management around them.

Iraola prefers Palace

Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) report this morning that Milan are close to receiving their first rejection. The official and definitive refusal has not yet arrived, but Iraola – the top name on the list to replace Allegri – doesn’t seem convinced.

The pursuit began well before the end of the season as Gerry Cardinale and Ibrahimovic met him on May 15th, two days before Genoa vs. Milan. There have also been contacts and discussions between the parties in the last few hours, but it seems that Palace will win the race.

There are several factors behind Iraola’s hesitation. For example, there are personal reasons , as his family would prefer to stay in England. There are financial ones too, as the English club – which finished 15th in the Premier League last season – can give a higher salary and transfer budget.

The Rossoneri will therefore likely have to evaluate other options. The alternatives include Oliver Glasner, who yesterday said goodbye to Crystal Palace after lifting the Conference League. Xavi – an old friend of Ibrahimovic – could be a name, as could Thiago Motta who knows Serie A well.

  1. for me: Iraola, Glasner, Xavi, Motta (Pocettino and other pseudo-coaches should be ignored at all cost.)

although there was a young Italian ex-midfielder who failed at Juve job before creating one of the best squad in our history.

    1. Failed at Juve because he finished 2nd twice in the 2 years he was there?
He finished higher than 2nd place only once at Milan in 8 years with one of the best squads in history. He finished 2nd twice at Milan, the other 5 seasons he finished lower than his 2nd place “failures” at Juventus

      1. Underrated comment. That squad WAS the best in our history. Better than the late 80s-early 90s squad. And he only managed one scudetto in eight seasons. We did go to the CL final three times, and honestly I think we could have gone five times in a row (in 2004 we collapsed at Deportivo and in 2006 the Barcelona game was fixed (see Sheva’s perfectly good goal annulled cor a nonexistent foul on Puyol)), but IMHO Ancelotti underperformed. He was always better in cups.

        1. We were for sure the best team in the world 2004. Really threw away a very winnable UCL. After deportivo would have been Porto and then Monaco. Should have been an easy title.

2005 we all know what happened. 2006 I thought barca were slightly better than us over 2 legs but my gosh that sheva header was a perfectly good goal. Crazy ref decision.

  2. Pocettino I know inside out from Spurs even his circle phylosophy, he is a great manger, a stable one, uses wingbacks a lot.

Unai Enery is also great, I also know that he has started and created this basis of Arsenal Arteata managed to get them here.

Question is why are we not going for Bialsa, he is as good as it gets, but with him, we need to allow him to do his work, and he is not a manager that comes for money. That may be a problem, but we have seen it in Leeds what he is capable of doing. Gets maximum from players and transforms them.

De Zerbi I think is another one that may suit, but not sure if he drops Spurs for us now. Even in relegation zone they have more money and super good infrastructure, hard to leave that behind at this point

  3. In the circumstances Motta should be considered as a potential standout coach and can start a cycle with him.

Milan lack the budget for big names and need a balanced coach who understands Italy but is attacking with his version of a 4-2-3-1.
His Bologna played good football, and he wasn’t really given a chance at Juve where key signings turned out to be flops( very familiar!) that season.

Emery would be the best but it ain’t happening with the state of the club and finances available. Motta could start straight away.

    1. he failed at juve with the best transfers he could ever get. if u want someone to start right away Antonio Conte then

      1. Best transfers ? Douglas Luiz, Koopmeiners & Nico Gonzales were flops at Juve of massive proportions, bought with very hefty price tags.
He lost the dressing room but Giuntoli and the transfers didn’t help.

  4. poch is not a good coach at all failed in spurs failed in psg failed in us national team
emery isnt leaving aston villa for now
    same with de zerbi
    bielsa is washed up
best options if iraola reject us are:
    Glasner
    Amorim
    Conte
    Hutter
    Toppmoller
    Mark Van Bommel
    can try for Farioli
    Thomas Frank
    Bruno Lage
    Felipe Luis

  5. Italiano is officially out of Bologna. Zlatan will end up with either Vinnie or Thiago Motta because no “giocista” will come to Milan.

And frankly, how idiotic is it to go for a coach first when you don’t even have a CEO and Sporting Director in place yet? Can’t even get the actual “reset” right…

  6. If iriola reject us the only option in my view are Italiano, de zarbi or try to convince fabrigas they are d perfect once to transform mila at this moment
