Zaniolo’s mother admits he was willing to make an effort to join Milan or Spurs

The mother of Nicolo Zaniolo has admitted that her son would have taken a pay cut in order to secure a move to AC Milan during the January transfer window.

It was well documented by virtually all major sources that Milan tried to sign Zaniolo during the winter mercato in order to strengthen their attacking options and give a boost to a squad that was in a crisis.

However, the Rossoneri were unable to get a deal over the line and in the end the Italy international moved to Turkey and joined Galatasaray on a permanent deal after the deadline had passed for most other European leagues.

Francesca Costa – Nicolò Zaniolo’s mother – gave a long interview to Corriere dello Sport in which she spoke of the negotiations that took place in January before her son’s transfer to Galatasaray, with her comments relayed by MilanNews.

“I want to clarify one aspect: Nicolò would have reduced his salary – or he would have asked for the same money as at Roma – for Milan or Tottenham. But those clubs didn’t find an agreement with the Giallorossi. At that point there was Bournemouth, it’s not true that they offered us five million a season,” she said.
