MN: Zaniolo, Ziyech and Saint-Maximin – the latest on Milan’s search for a winger

By Oliver Fisher -

Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara at work to try and seize one of the now famous ‘opportunities’ that may arise in the last few days of the January window, with three wingers in the sights.

There are five days left for the Milan management to try and strengthen the squad with the addition of a new forward, and MilanNews have provided an update on each of the three situations most talked about in the media at present.

Nicolo Zaniolo: He and Roma are at loggerheads after the winger refused a call-up for their last Serie A match against Spezia. The Giallorossi are happy to sell and would accept a loan with an almost certain obligation to buy set at €30-35m, give or take some bonuses.

At the moment there is no agreement with Milan either on the formula – as the Rossoneri want an obligation triggered only under certain conditions such as qualification for the next Champions League – or on the amount of the operation, with Maldini aiming for around €20m.

There are no indications that RedBird Capital will make ‘extra budget’ available but the management will try until the last day, hoping that Roma will lower their demands, also thanks to the player’s strong will to join Milan as he has refused the advances of the Premier League, in particular those of Bournemouth who offered €30m and a permanent deal.

Hakim Ziyech: The name has been constantly and strongly associated with the Rossoneri for a couple of years now, and Ziyech is expected to leave Chelsea where he was not finding playing time before the World Cup and could have even less given their huge January spending spree.

Milan’s interest is real and concrete, and RedBird Capital are on good terms with their compatriot Todd Boehly who owns Chelsea. It remains a difficult operation, which at the moment could only be set up with the hypothesis of a loan, though developments could come in the coming hours.

Allan Saint-Maximin: The French winger is very skilled on both flanks and Newcastle United would let the former Nice star leave on loan with an option to buy, but that would be set at more than €30m.

Milan consider him to be a very strong and interesting player, but at the figures demanded by Newcastle the conditions for a possible operation do not exist at the moment.

  1. I would love to think that saint maximin is coming .
He is strong and very fast ,and yes he can cross the ball …Bring him on Giroud will thrive on his service .
What I do not want is Ziyech ..Reason he plays one good game in every 3 or four games ,and he is injury prone ..Yes saint Maximin ,brilliant but will this happen .? I think not …If he does come to Us AC Milan He will be a huge asset , just as I said about Olivier Giroud when we signed him ..please please AC Milan
