‘Just a friendly game’ – Zlatan reacquainted with Pep Guardiola in New York

By Oliver Fisher -

Zlatan Ibrahimovic was reunited with Pep Guardiola during Saturday night’s friendly match in New York and he shared a video of the encounter.

Zlatan posted a clip of Guardiola walking over to him and the pair exchanging a hug before the match between AC Milan and Manchester City at Yankee Stadium, one which ended 3-2 in favour of the Rossoneri. It also had the caption: ‘Just a friendly game’.

It has been well documented that Ibrahimovic did not exactly get along with Guardiola after he moved to Barcelona in 2009. The Swede told Piers Morgan Uncensored: “When I met Pep Guardiola, he told me: “Remember, the players here do not come with Ferraris.

“What did I do? Of course. I brought my f***ing Ferrari. I yelled: ‘You haven’t got any b***s!’ and worse than that I added: ‘You can go to hell!'”

In his autobiography Zlatan spoke about Barcelona’s Champions league exit to Inter, when the Nerazzurri went on to win the Champions League under Jose Mourinho.

“I completely lost it, and you might have expected Guardiola to say a few words in response, but he’s a spineless coward. He just picked up the metal box, like a little caretaker, and then left, never to mention it again, not a word,” he said.

Fifteen years after the feud, Ibra came face to face with Pep again given he is now a Senior Advisor for Milan’s ownership group, and it seems that time has healed some of the wounds given they exchanged a hug and a few words.

  1. Ibra does not love the guy and you can tell that from the pictures. And every single word he said turned to be true

  2. This was SO cringy to watch. You could read it in Ibra’s body language. I’m sure behind those smiles Ibra still holds Pep to such “high” regards…
