The agent of Massimiliano Allegri has lifted the lid on how his return to AC Milan for a second spell as head coach came to fruition.

It was announced on Friday that Allegri is the new coach of Milan, marking a return to the club 11 years after his first tenure ended. He had been out of work since after the Coppa Italia final win over Atalanta in 2023-24, waiting for the right opportunity.
While the likes of Inter, Juventus, Atalanta, Roma, Lazio and Fiorentina all have situations to resolve pertaining to who their head coach will be next season, Igli Tare moved quickly to snatch perhaps the best ‘free agent’ on the market, in terms of honours.
Allegri’s agent speaks
Giovanni Branchini, the agent of Allegri as well as many players, spoke to Radio Anch’io Sport on Radio Rai. He was asked about how Allegri ended up back at Milan, something we explained in a recent feature, and his comments were relayed by MilanNews.
How did Allegri end up back at Milan?
“We analysed the concrete and real proposal that we received . The ‘rumors’ have taken on excessive importance in our world. There is a rush to anticipate events that can often lead to error.
“Several clubs approached Max Allegri in recent months, but we have to make decisions on what concretely materialises. The moment an interesting proposal materialises in a club that the coach likes, an agreement is reached in a very short time. Often, imagination goes beyond reality.”
Was there also an offer from Roma for Allegri?
“No, there hasn’t been an offer at this stage. There was an attempt to contact him many months ago, but we considered it very unlikely to be credible. There have been no developments and there hasn’t even been contact.”
Are you worried about the relationship between Allegri and Ibrahimovic?
“I’m not worried. I don’t see Ibrahimovic’s name in the Milan organisational chart with a specific role. Ibra is a consultant for Redbird, but everyone at Milan has realised that there is a need for univocity, for understanding, for something that has been missing in recent months.
“I’m not that worried, I hope that the club has made this choice knowing that, in addition to changing a few players, some approaches towards the players and the environment need to change.”
