Youssouf Fofana has improved massively over the last few weeks, turning his usual final-third struggles into contributions. However, as Massimiliano Allegri highlighted today, there is still an important part missing.

If you look at the season as a whole, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that it has been a frustrating one for Fofana. The Frenchman has been given a lot of trust by Allegri, who has often fielded him from start given the stamina and ability to win back possession.
In the final third, however, the former Monaco man has often struggled to make a meaningful impact in the games. Even if he gets into the right positions, in fact he almost always does, the final touch has simply been too poor most of the time.
I say most of the time because in the last few weeks, a switch has seemingly been flicked. After the game against Cremonese, in which he should have had two assists and was denied a goal by a great save, he got the game-winning assist with a lovely pass against Inter.
Now goals are needed
When asked about this evident improvement in meaningful contributions during today’s press conference, Allegri highlighted that there is still one thing missing: “He’s provided the assists, now we are just missing the goals. I think they will come,” Fofana.
The midfielder is expected to start against Lazio tomorrow and with Adrien Rabiot suspended, there is definitely room for him to take on important responsibilities.
