Ahead of the new season, a lot has been said about Amorim’s desire to assess everyone at the club. Indeed, he wants to get a complete view of the squad, including those who spent last season away from Milanello.
So, your mind may instantly go to the youngsters. However, they are not the only ones who could get a look in. Indeed, some of the senior loan players from last season could be reassessed, and this may mean players like Yunus Musah will be given a chance.
Amorim’s admissions about the squad
During his press conference earlier today, Amorim was asked about who could be re-evaluated and his reply was certainly interesting.
“There are some players who weren’t here last year. Chukwueze is staying with us, we need players who can play one-on-one. Saelemaekers can play left or right; he likes to play one-on-one.
“Cissè and Comotto will start with us, I don’t know what will happen. We’ll find new players who weren’t here last year. If they play well, if they absorb my ideas, then we’ll find a place for them: before looking outside, let’s look carefully inside.
“Then after the preseason we’ll decide, but always with an eye on the budget. The owner is here… [he laughs] We’ll evaluate the young players; Chukwueze has great qualities and gives us alternatives.”
It is also worth noting that, when discussing Christian Pulisic, the traits discussed seemed to be for both wingers and Chukwueze would fit the bill.
“I have clear ideas about how I want to see him play. With his right foot on the left side, but also on the other side. Although I want him between the lines, not with his feet on the line. He’s well-liked at the club, and the whole team is behind him to make the most of him.
We shall have to see, of course, but it seems the Nigerian’s story could be re-written this summer.
