CorSport: Maldini preparing another Theo-esque mission to convince Real Madrid playmaker

AC Milan are on a mission to reinforce their attack and they have put Marco Asensio right at the top of their list after the initial links a few weeks ago.

Asensio has not yet renewed his contract with Real Madrid which expires in 2023 and that leaves them with a dilemma as they  must decide quickly whether to sell their the playmaker to generate some funds or to keep trying for an extension but run the risk of losing him for free.

As reported this morning by Corriere dello Sport (via MlanNews), there is the risk that Asensio could ask to leave not just because of the economic differences but also because he has not found much playing time under Carlo Ancelotti.

Milan are interested but so are Juventus, Manchester United and Arsenal. The two Serie A clubs benefit from being in the next Champions League, which could be a determining factor in negotiations with the player.

Technical director Paolo Maldini has already spoken to Ancelotti who gave his approval for discussions to start with the player. Milan are ready to meet Asensio in Mallorca, the player’s hometown, to try to convince him, a bit like Maldini did in summer 2019 with Theo Hernandez. The maximum asking price is expected to be €30m.
