Bennacer explains his struggle with yellow cards and responds to Rangnick rumours

Arriving from Empoli last summer, Ismael Bennacer has become a key player for AC Milan despite a rocky start. With a youth revolution on the cards, the Algerian is expected to be one of the leaders in the squad.

In an interview with Sportweek (via MilanNews.it), the midfielder was asked about various topics ahead of the season resumption. As mentioned, he’s a key player for the Rossoneri and he didn’t hesitate when they came knocking last summer.

“I chose Milan for their history, but even more because of the fact that their project was the best for me” he began.

This season, Bennacer has received 12 yellow cards in the league, which more than any other player in the top European leagues. When asked about the matter, the 22-year-old acknowledged that it’s something he needs to work on.

“Mamma mia… This is an aspect I must improve in my game. I am, as they say, hasty. Too aggressive. I have really taken some cards for nothing. It’s because I feel the importance of this shirt.

“At San Siro, the fans are pushing and you want to help the team more, more and more. I want to give everything, and when you want to give everything you end up not thinking,” he continued.

Speaking of improvement, Milan are hoping that the youth revolution will get them back to the top. Ralf Rangnick is in pole position to lead the project and has been heavily linked with the club as of late, but Bennacer doesn’t want to put any focus on it.

“A new coach? I don’t think about it. I think about finishing the season well, there are still 12 games left at the end of the championship. I feel ready, I miss football so much,” he concluded.
