La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) note how Bennacer’s dominant performance – topped off by a beautiful goal – was a perfect display of his all-round game both from the point of view of quality and work rate.
The Algerian almost won the battle for the midfield on his own while Sandro Tonali appeared a bit sluggish, and Bennacer was the Milan player to have played the most balls (101 – Calabria second with 88). In addition, Bennacer recovered 9 balls, second only to Calabria who had 11.
Bennacer hopes to resume being part of a formidable pairing with Tonali who has yet to find his best condition. From this point of view, the discussion relating to the renewal of his contract cannot go without mention.
The former Empoli man has a deal which expires in 2024 and is one of the names at the top of Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara’s list in terms of an extension.
The tight deadline and some interested Premier League clubs put pressure on the Rossoneri who, however, know that the €50m release clause is no longer exercisable this summer.
