Castillejo urges Real Madrid loanee to stay and praises Milan’s ‘family’ unit – video

AC Milan winger Samu Castillejo has branded the current squad a ‘family’ and insists that everyone has ‘brought something to the team’.

Castillejo chalked up another start last night during a memorable 7-0 victory over Torino with Alexis Saelemaekers happy, and he has been used plenty by Stefano Pioli in what has been an injury troubled season.

Interviewed by Milan TV, the Rossoneri right winger Samu Castillejo summed up a memorable year with his comments transcribed by MilanNews and translated below.

On the team: “Putting the group in front of individuals is one of the things I like. If we are not compact, or a family, it is impossible to achieve the important goals. This year we are a real group. All the players have high moments and low during the season. It is impossible to do well for 11 months. This year whoever took over has brought something to the team. And that is why we are close to the goal.”

On qualifying for the Champions League: “We made a great journey. On Sunday we hope to reach this goal with a victory, better with a goal (smiles).”

On Brahim Diaz: “Brahim is a kid, he’s 21. He’s a family boy: he’s good and he’s very strong as a player. I’m happy for him. I know he cares a lot about Milan. We’ve all welcomed him into the group. We hope he stays with us with us.”

On Torino-Milan: “It was one of the most important matches of the year. Playing against a team that is playing for salvation is never easy. Yesterday we made a great performance. When we are focused and we are on track, we are a strong team and we proved it. We want to reach the Champions goal.”
