CM: Milan paid just €15m to Chelsea for Loftus-Cheek – the background

Ruben Loftus-Cheek bagged a brace in AC Milan’s clash against Bologna on Saturday evening, once again confirming why the Rossoneri signed him. And as highlighted by a report, they managed to get him for a mere €15m.

The Englishman was the first signing of the 2023 summer window and so far, he has done very well with the red and black shirt. In 23 appearances, he has five goals and two assists, with four of the goals coming since the start of the year.

As reported by Calciomercato.com, Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara first decided to make a move for Loftus-Cheek after the Chelsea-Milan clash on October 5th, 2022. He dominated the midfield and impressed the duo, who prepared the negotiations for the summer.

Geoffrey Moncada and Antonio D’Ottavio, who took over from Maldini and Massara, were equally impressed and decided to proceed with the operation. An agreement was reached with Chelsea at €15m plus €3m in bonuses, and this certainly sounds like a bargain.

Since the start of the year, Loftus-Cheek has played solely in the No.10 role behind Olivier Giroud or Luka Jovic, and this is clearly the position for him. His best-ever goalscoring tally is ten for a season but perhaps a new personal best is on the cards, as he alluded to himself.
