CM: Milan accelerate negotiations for Schalke defender amid change of strategy

AC Milan have seemingly changed their centre-back strategy, now keen on bringing in one on a permanent basis. As a result, the Rossoneri have set their sights on one player in particular, a report claims.

Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara have been working on the signing of a centre-back ever since the departure of Alessio Romagnoli. Several players have been linked with the club and many of them have also completely disappeared from the radar.

According to Calciomercato.com, Milan have changed their strategy slightly as they now want a centre-back on a permanent basis. The interest in Schalke 04’s Malick Thiaw is thus gathering steam and contacts between the clubs are ongoing.

Thiaw has a price tag of €5-6m and optimism is filtering, per the report. Milan will get 15% of Paqueta’s transfer to West Ham and it looks like that could be closed at €60m, meaning the move for Thiaw would be paid for. However, some outlets have suggested that Milan are only entitled to 15% of the profit.
