CM: Milan have ‘large advantage’ in Popovic race and aim to close deal soon

AC Milan have a ‘large advantage’ over other clubs in the race to sign Matija Popovic on a free transfer but they must turn that into pen on paper before a celebratory toast can begin.

Calciomercato.com report that a ‘spark broke out’ between Milan and Popovic which ‘should lead to the signing of the contract’. The official offer from the Rossoneri is on the table: a five-year deal which will be a big pay rise from what he gets currently.

Milan have scouted the teenager for some time and believe that his speed, technical quality and versatility (he can play anywhere across the forward line) make him a very exciting prospect.

Popovic is heading towards the end of his relationship with Partizan Belgrade given his contract expires on December 31 and he will then be free to sign with his new club. Until January 7 the game remains open with Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona, RB Leipzig and other clubs still trying.

Milan, for its part, know they have ‘accumulated a large advantage’ but remains focused on closing the operation because they know that as long as there are no signatures, anything can still happen.

Popovic and his entourage have emitted positive feelings regarding Milan in the last few days, so now Geoffrey Moncada and Antonio D’Ottavio hope to celebrate the arrival of a very interesting prospect.
