CM: Modric ‘dream’ still alive – he could join Milan for free next year

AC Milan could make a move to sign Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric on a free transfer ahead of next summer, a report claims.

Speculation arose regarding a potential move for Modric during the summer mercato, with widespread reports claiming that new Milan director Boban was keen to bring his friend and compatriot to San Siro.

SportMediaset (via Calciomercato.com) even stated at one point that the Rossoneri were preparing a contract offer for the Croatia international, with Real having set an asking price of €20m.

However, the current Ballon d’Or holder eventually ended up staying at Real Madrid, though according to Calciomercato.it we may not have heard the end of it.

Their report states that what was a dream for Milan this summer ‘could become a reality in a few months when the midfielder will be free to sign with any team’.

They claim that the Croatian has a contract expiring in 2020, and may choose to seek pastures new and play for his boyhood club.

Of course, Modric would have to significantly lower his salary to move to San Siro and satisfy Milan’s economic needs in order to make the dream come true.
