The future of Alessio Romagnoli is still to be decided despite the fact some important indications came from Saturday’s friendly, a report claims.
According to Calciomercato.com, the outcome is far from obvious when it comes to Romagnoli’s fate. The starting line-up of Milan’s last pre-season friendly against Panathinaikos saw Simon Kjaer partner Fikayo Tomori, and this is perhaps an important indication of where Stefano Pioli’s hierarchy is.
With over 45 games to come plus the inevitable injuries and suspensions there will be playing time for everyone, but compared to the starts of his previous six seasons with the Rossoneri, Romagnoli is no longer a permanent fixture.
The fact his contract is expiring in June 2022 is an interesting sub-plot too as from February he could agree a pre-contract with another club. The exits of Donnarumma and Calhanoglu have shown that players are not unwilling to jump to a project they feel is better.
Milan have not started talks over a renewal but Romagnoli has not asked to be sold in the current window, presenting a stalemate of which the outcome is difficult to predict. Maldini and Massara have a few days to sell Romagnoli or they must inevitably think about a renewal.
