‘Conte had a dream: Milan’ – Journalist explains background including Furlani’s veto

Antonio Conte was very much prepared to listen to AC Milan as he looks for his next job in football, but ultimately the call is yet to come.

Reports first started surfacing towards the end of last year regarding the possibility of Conte replacing Stefano Pioli as the head coach of Milan either immediately or in time for the start of the 2024-25 season.

However, over time his name has slipped down the list of possible replacements for Pioli, who managed to once again stabilise the Rossoneri after a crisis with an impressive string of results in the last couple of months.

The director of Sportitalia, Michele Criscitiello, has always been one of the main journalists pushing the idea of Conte joining Milan and he has provided further clarification on what went on.

“Conte had a dream: Milan. He liked the team, Ibra too, the fans a lot and the city needless to say. Furlani, however, put the brakes on,” he said (via Radio Rossonera).

“Whoever says that Conte asks for established and expensive footballers means that he doesn’t study, doesn’t know history and doesn’t delve deeper.”

One of the names that has been mentioned instead is Julen Lopetegui, with a report yesterday claiming that two meetings were held between him and the Milan management.
