CorSport: €50m request forces Milan to back down in pursuit of Dutch star

Cody Gakpo has been one of the exclamations marks at the World Cup thus far, bagging three goals in three games for the Netherlands. AC Milan have been monitoring him for a long time, but now it might be too late.

The PSV Eindhoven winger has been a key player for the Netherlands and this has inevitably attracted the interest of several top clubs. Milan have been linked with him in the past but now, clearly, the situation has changed.

According to Corriere Dello Sport (via MilanPress), Milan are indeed one of the clubs interested in the 23-year-old. However, they have been forced to take a step back amid the €50m+ price tag set by PSV Eindhoven.

Of course, the situation could take yet another turn if the Rossoneri were to sell Rafael Leao either in January or in the summer. Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are working hard on the renewal, but it’s a hypothesis to keep in mind.
