Ruben Amorim wants to add a defensive profile to the midfield and Pierre-Emil Højbjerg is one of the options, according to a report.

Milan already have a lot of midfielders in their squad, but when you assess the profiles, none of them have the defensive phase as their main strength. Adrien Rabiot gets close with his size and physicality, but it would be wrong to call that his main attribute.

As such, according to Corriere dello Sport this morning (via MilanPress), Amorim could ask the management to sign a defensive-minded midfielder. In short, a player who is capable of protecting the defence, especially when the wing-backs push up.

In that sense, Højbjerg could be the perfect signing for Milan. Contacts have begun with his entourage, as the newspaper continues, and it seems Marseille are willing to let him go. The price tag would be around €15m for the 30-year-old, which is feasible.

Furthermore, his salary of around €3m per season is definitely within the Rossoneri’s reach. Before doing anything, though, they would need to offload one or more midfielders: Rabiot, Modric, Jashari, Ricci, Comotto, Musah, Fofana, and Loftus-Cheek.

That’s a lot of midfielders, but as has been reported by several outlets before, not all of them are expected to remain at the club.
