CorSport: Milan save €21m on salaries thanks to Growth Decree – the breakdown

AC Milan were able to make a big saving thanks to the Growth Decree tax relief scheme that the Italian government brought in during recent seasons.

The Italian government introduced the scheme as a way to help clubs lure players from abroad as any non-Italian players signed after 2019 August would enjoy a 50% tax reduction as long as they stayed for two or more years. We have explained more about the Growth Decree here.

As Corriere dello Sport reports (via ACMilanFR), Milan saved a total of €21m in additional salary payments thanks to the Growth Decree, starting with the forward trio of Ante Rebic, Olivier Giroud and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, with a saving of over €2m on each player.

New signing Mike Maignan’s gross salary was only €3.7m when it would have been €4.5m without the scheme, while other notable savings were made on Fikayo Tomori (€1.4m), Theo Hernandez (€3m), Tiemoue Bakayoko (€1.7m), Rafael Leao (€1m) and Alexis Saelemaekers (€1.1m).

We can also see that Ibra’s salary this season was €4m net, and not €7m as was reported by a wide range of sources.
