Dionisi thinks Sassuolo deserved more against Milan and calls Leao ‘incredible’

Sassuolo coach Alessio Dionisi believes that his side put in a performance that was on par with AC Milan during Saturday’s Serie A clash, and had a message of support for Rafael Leao.

Speaking to the press after the game (via Milan News), Dionisi was clearly annoyed by the narrow defeat given he felt that his team had done enough to get at least a point from the game at San Siro.

It was Christian Pulisic who scored the only goal of the game, and Milan were actually only able to generate two shots on target during the 90 minutes.

On the final result, Dionisi said: “Allowing just two shots on goal is difficult. The boys worked well without the ball, much better than other games. This, if we understand it, is our dimension in the defensive phase. We could have been more precise in attack. It’s a shame because we leave with nothing after a performance on par with Milan.”

One of the main talking points from the game was that Rafael Leao got booed by some fans when he was substituted after another poor performance.

Dionisi picked the Portuguese winger out and spoke about his quality after the match: “There’s already a lot of talk about Leao, he’s incredible. Today we limited him well.”

Milan’s three points were essential given there had been much talk that Stefano Pioli would be sacked had he failed to win that game.

The draw against Salernitana had seen the pressure on the coach mount considerably.
