Fichajes: Milan lining up move for Real Madrid defender on free transfer

AC Milan are interested in signing Nacho Fernandez on a free transfer from Real Madrid, according to a report from Spain.

According to Fichajes, Stefano Pioli has requested his arrival to add experience and quality to a rearguard that has had a lot of injury problems this season and continues to be low on numbers.

The report suggests that the deal is being lined up more for the summer when his contract with Real Madrid expires, meaning it would be an economically advantageous operation as well given the lack of a transfer fee involved.

The presence of Éder Militao, Antonio Rüdiger and David Alaba mean that Nacho has fallen down the pecking order in the eyes of Carlo Ancelotti, who now considers him the fourth choice.

Given that the Spaniard is 33 years of age and approaching the twilight stage of his career, he could make the decision to put an end to his time with Los Blancos and try his luck in another major European league.

There are various things for the Rossoneri to work out too, for example who will be the head coach heading into 2024-25 and thus whether Pioli will have any say on transfers that would take effect from then. Simon Kjaer’s deal is also expiring, so a decision must be made on him.
