Fonseca responds defiantly to Sarri and Boban’s advice: “I work with the players”

AC Milan head coach Paulo Fonseca responded to the advice and suggestions that he was given by Maurizio Sarri and Zvonimir Boban regarding the formation he is using.

In case you missed it during the week, the former Napoli and Chelsea boss Sarri stated his belief that Ruben Loftus-Cheek performs best in a box-to-box midfield role, otherwise called a No.8 or a ‘mezzala’ in Italy.

Meanwhile, Boban – who worked at Milan until being fired a few years ago – also suggested that Fonseca should use a three-man midfield because of the characteristics of the players currently in the squad and the fact that it provides more protection for a defence that seems to be struggling.

Fonseca spoke to the reporters present at Milanello in his pre-match press conference after the training session on the eve of the game, and he was asked if he had read the comments and if so what he thinks.

“I always respect other people’s opinions, especially if they are constructive like those of Sarri and Boban. They are opinions, but I work with the players. We don’t all have the same ideas, I have to follow what I believe in, not what others say,” he said.
