AC Milan and Arsenal face competition from Spurs in the race for Barcelona defender Junior Firpo, according to a report.
In his latest for Calciomercato.com on Tuesday, Fabrizio Romano confirmed there was a real and concrete attempt with Barcelona to get the former Real Betis star on loan with an option to buy.
However, there were two things that blocked the deal going through: Barca’s inability to get a replacement, and the player’s desire to stay. Arsenal were also interested, and both clubs could go back in for him in the summer.
Spanish outlet Fichajes.net reports that José Mourinho has let owner Daniel Levy know that he wants a new left-back ahead of the new season, and Firpo is a profile that appeals to him.
It would cost €10m to sign him from Barcelona in the summer, the report adds, even though there was talk of a higher price in the January market. His valuation is destined to drop if he continues to be left out of the squad.
Tottenham are keen to please Mourinho, who not completely happy with the squad available to him today as they are ninth in the table at the moment.
