GdS: Lower demands and goal struggles – how Milan’s Jonathan David plan is taking shape

AC Milan are searching for a new striker and the most heavily linked name right now is Jonathan David at Lille, so the club has formed a plan to secure his signature.

As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Rossoneri are extremely keen on the Canadian striker and it is clear that Milan need to sign a striker who can be the long-term replacement for Olivier Giroud.

Jonathan David’s profile

Last season he scored 26 goals and in the season before, 19. Born in 2000, David fits the profile of player that Milan are trying to sign, in that he is undoubtedly talented, young, and does not need to be purchased from one of Europe’s top teams.

He would likely cost around €40m, a figure lower than the €60m requested by the French club a few months ago, by virtue of his contract expiring in 2025.

The Taremi alternative

One thing that will make Milan wonder about a different track is the availability of Mehdi Taremi. The Porto striker would be a cheaper and more experienced option, but there is almost no room for growth there. They will need to beat competition from Inter, though.

Milan’s plan

Milan are aware of their options and will pounce if an opportunity arises in January for a move. That being said, the main plan remains to make a serious purchase of a striker in the summer of 2024.

Milan are currently putting their faith in Luka Jovic and Noah Okafor as the other options behind Olivier Giroud. In the summer, one of David or Taremi are very serious options.
