Now that the summer window has been closed for more or less two weeks, more conclusions can be drawn about the business that was done by clubs in Serie A.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) writes that Milan lead the way with €113.5m in total money spent on signings during the mercato, with a sizeable chunk of that (€70m) recouped from the sale of Sandro Tonali to Newcastle.
To revolutionise the team and deepen the squad depth available to Stefano Pioli, RedBird Capital’s funds were also needed because the total net spend was still €37m, the highest of any Serie A club by some distance.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tijjani Reijnders have redesigned the midfield, with the other new face, Yunus Musah. In attack, Christian Pulisic – signed from Chelsea – is already an immovable starter, with Samuel Chukwueze, Noah Okafor and Luka Jovic the alternatives.
The most expensive operation was Chukwueze, signed for €20m (plus €8m bonuses) from Villarreal, and now Pioli can enjoy having multiple options per position.
Two other clubs exceeded €100m in spending. Inter spent €101m thanks to two operations, net of bonuses, of €30m or more: Davide Frattesi (€33m) and Benjamin Pavard (€30m).
However, their economic situation meant they had to also sacrifice Andre Onana (€50m), Marcelo Brozovic (€18m) and Robin Gosens (€15m) as well as some young players for a total of €102m, meaning a €1m net spend.
Napoli spent on the permanent signings of Giacomo Raspadori (€25m) and Giovanni Simeone (€12m), but also invested in Jesper Lindstrøm from Eintracht Frankfurt (€25m), Jens Cajuste from Reims (€12m) and Natan from Bragantino (€10m).
Napoli have cushioned their expenses a little thanks to the sale of Kim, with Bayern Munich paying his €50m release clause, in addition to the farewells of Andrea Petagna and Hirving Lozano.
Juventus closed with a surplus of almost €15m because the redemptions of Arkadiusz Milik (€6.3m), Manuel Locatelli (€25m) and Moise Kean (€28m) plus the arrivals of Timothy Weah (€10.3m) and Facundo Gonzalez from Valencia (€2m), were financed by sales.
Dejan Kulusevski went to Spurs (€30m), Denis Zakaria to Monaco (€20m), Nicolo Rovella to Lazio (€17m, loan with obligation), De Winter to Genoa (€8m, loan with obligation), Dragusin to Genoa (€5m), Pellegrini to Lazio (€4m, loan with obligation) plus a €2m loan fee for Arthur Melo.
The other teams who spent more than they received were Torino (net spend of €34.25m), Monza (€27.25m), Salernitana (€20.9m), Bologna (€18.8m), Cagliari (€4.2m) and Lazio (€4m).
