GdS: Milan have Leverkusen’s World Cup winning midfielder on list of targets

AC Milan are looking at various options to come in and bolster the midfield department with one of their targets currently playing in the Bundesliga.

That is according to today’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews), which writes that Milan might now need to sign two central midfielders in the summer given that Ismael Bennacer has undergone an operation on his knee and will be out for at least six months.

One of the names that is one their wish list is Exequiel Palacios, a 24-year-old midfielder currently playing at Bayer Leverkusen who made a run to the Europa League semi-finals, while he was also a World Cup winner with Argentina.

Palacios has played 23 games as a box-to-box midfielder this season under Xabi Alonso who is the Leverkusen boss, with five goals and two assists to his name. He has also played in a defensive midfield role three times, and in a more advanced position twice.

He has struggled with injuries since joining the German club having had a vertebra fracture in his first season, an abductor muscle tear, a torn ankle ligament, a back issue and a hamstring problem.
