Christian Pulisic gave Milan the lead in the 29th minute after converting the rebound of a penalty that he won. However, Monza quickly found the equaliser through Andrea Colpano, who found the back of the net just three minutes later. Eventually, the game was decided on penalties (the Rossoneri won 6-5).
As highlighted by Gazzetta Dello Sport, there were a few standout players in the game for Milan. Tijjani Reijnders was the MOTM with a rating of 7/10, showing off his abilities with ‘elegance and effectiveness at once’.
Mike Maignan, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Christian Pulisic were slightly behind the Dutchman at 6.5. Especially the Englishman did well, playing to his strengths by driving forward with the ball and shielding it well.
Rade Krunic and Theo Hernandez passed the test at 6. The likes of Pierre Kalulu, Malick Thiaw and Rafael Leao only got a 5.5, which by Gazzetta’s standards is considered a fail.
The worst, however, were Fikayo Tomori and Olivier Giroud at 5. The defender made a big mistake on the goal and continues to be sloppy/unreliable. ‘What happened to the old Fik?’, the paper asks.
