AC Milan’s defensive record this season has been far from great, especially recently, and the plan is to bolster the centre-back department in the summer transfer window.
This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (as seen below) highlights some of the worries about Milan’s defensive phase, such as the fact that they are in the bottom half of the table when it comes to goals conceded.
Malick Thiaw is expected to return for the Monza away match in one weel, and then Fikayo Tomori and Pierre Kalulu will follow after, all of whom were out for a long time with muscle injuries.
However, Milan have been working on reinforcements for some time and the name of Wolfsburg’s Maxence Lacroix is the one who is climbing positions in the list of Geoffrey Moncada and his team.
Lacroix is 23 years old, came through the academy at Sochaux and has been playing in the Bundesliga since 2020. With Wolfsburg he has 117 appearances on his CV (six of which are in the Champions League) and four goals.
Milan like him because he has physical strength and speed, essential characteristics to adapt well to Serie A. They tested the waters in January without much luck, but Lacroix’s deal will expire in 2025 and a summer acquisition cost may not be excessive.
The alternatives: Lilian Brassier of Brest, who was already close to joining the Rossoneri last month, then Tosin Adarabioyo and Lloyd Kelly from Fulham and Bournemouth respectively. They are both on expiring deals, and could join on a free.
