Stefano Pioli made a strong choice for the game against Roma as Tomori was preferred to captain Alessio Romagnoli, but the Englishman repaid the faith of his head coach with a fantastic defensive performance. La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) reports how the excellent outing offered by the 23-year-old at the Olimpico has strengthened the convictions of Milan, and the idea of signing the player from Chelsea at the end of the season is taking shape.
The exclusion of Romagnoli certainly did not make the captain happy, and he could still start against Udinese, but the problem is related to his renewal. Alessio has his contract expiring in 2022 and is aiming for a big pay rise which could see the club strongly consider a sale.
On the contrary, the Rossoneri management hope to keep Tomori and the agreement they struck with Chelsea has an option to buy set at €28m, so the ball is exclusively in the hands of Milan and the player.
