Marco Guida has been named the head referee for Lazio-Milan by AIA, set to officiate his 42nd game involving the Rossoneri (!) in his career.

After a few weeks with a lot of controversy, Daniele Doveri brought things back to order in the Derby della Madonnina between Milan and Inter. There were complaints from the Nerazzurri about a potential handball on Samuele Ricci, but at the end of the day, the right decision was made.
Of course, Milan are now hoping that the officiating will continue to keep a high level for the remainder of the season, with ten important games to play for the Rossoneri. For tomorrow’s game against Lazio, a familiar face has been assigned to the game.
Good and bad precedents
As confirmed by AIA earlier in the week, Marco Guida will be the referee for the game. At 44 years of age, he’s certainly one of the more experienced referees in the league and this will actually be his 42nd game involving Milan, which is quite a lot.
The current record is as follows: 20 wins in favour of Milan, 11 draws and 10 defeats. Guida has also handed out 10 penalties to the Rossoneri, while sending off players on nine occasions (three second yellows, six straight reds).
That said, there is definitely some controversy involving the referee. In the game against Roma in November, he was seen kicking Alexis Saelemaekers as the Belgian celebrated a missed penalty. It’s something he wasn’t punished for after, which was a little strange.
It’s also worth noting that Guida officiated the round of 16 in the Coppa Italia between Milan and Lazio earlier in the season, which the Biancocelesti won by the odd goal.
On top of the games already mentioned, he was also in charge of these earlier in the season: the 0-0 draw away at Juventus, during which Milan missed a penalty, and the 3-1 win away at Como when they converted a penalty.
