Jose Mauri aims dig at Milan: “Has Mauri failed or has Milan’s project?”

Former AC Milan midfielder Jose Mauri has insisted that his time at the club cannot be deemed a failure, hinting that false promises were made to attract him.

Big things were expected when the Italian-Argentine joined the Rossoneri four years ago on a free transfer from Parma, and he made his full debut for the club on 1 December in a Coppa Italia game against Crotone.

However, he struggled for opportunities during his first season and was subsequently loaned to Empoli, where he played 14 times in the 2016-17 season.

Upon his return to the club many assumed he would be sold by the management, but in the end Milan allowed him to run his deal down before he was finally allowed to leave on a free transfer in June once his deal had expired.

Now playing at Argentinian side Talleres de Córdoba, Mauri offered some background on his time with the Diavolo.

“They all wanted me, I talked to Juventus, Roma, Fiorentina. However, as it turned out, Milan seemed far and away the The best choice I could have made,” he told Di Marzio, via Calciomercato.com.

“I would make the same choice, the Rossoneri offered me a leading role and talked with conviction about a young project to become glorious again.

“Talking about my experience at Milan as a failure would not be correct, it wouldn’t be right for me, not even for Bertolacci, Conti and dozens of other young people from San Siro in recent years.”
