Andrea Longoni has argued that AC Milan are heading for ‘yet another revolution’ this summer, which will make things difficult for Max Allegri to build a competitive team for next season.

While this past season must be forgotten immediately, finishing in 8th place, it’s necessarily true that everything needs to be changed to return to the top. Igli Tare (sporting director) and Max Allegri (head coach) have arrived, but now it seems there will be major changes on the squad front as well.
Some departures were expected, such as Theo Hernandez given the contract situation, but there has perhaps been more movement than expected. In his latest editorial for MilanNews, this is exactly what Andrea Longoni highlighted.
“Without major upheavals, with some targeted signings, last season’s squad could have had a great season with Allegri. Some changes are necessary, such as for the players with a breakdown at an environmental or contractual level, but now the risk is that it will be exaggerated.
“Reijnders is gone. A very painful loss, a player who will be missed for a long time, as we are experiencing with Tonali today. Theo Hernandez, meanwhile, must leave for the club’s sake.
“Maignan, after the terrible actions of the management, hasn’t renewed and now he can really leave. No one can bet on Leao’s permanence either, given the strong interest of Bayern Munich and the obvious openness of the player.
“The risk, in fact, is yet another revolution. In the event of that, Milan would start from year zero, with an almost completely new group and without any knowledge within it. The hope is that the change can be partial and not so impactful,” he wrote.
Considering what this management said just a few months ago, with there supposedly being no need for any big sales, one can’t help but feel a bit perplexed about the summer so far. Hopefully, Allegri and Tare will be able to build a competitive squad still.
