Massara not ruling out Zaniolo move but admits it will be ‘very difficult’

AC Milan director Ricky Massara did not rule out a move for Nicolo Zaniolo before the transfer window closes, but described it as ‘very difficult’.

Paolo Maldini declared after the signing of Devis Vasquez that Milan’s incoming market for January is over, however in the last couple of days rumours have exploded regarding the potential signing of Zaniolo from Roma.

Every major source from MilanNews to Gianluca Di Marzio have stated that the Rossoneri are pushing to land the 23-year-old forward through some kind of a loan formula, but there is nothing to suggest an agreement is imminent just yet.

Massara spoke to DAZN before the game and began by reflecting on the Supercoppa defeat last week against Inter, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“The Supercoppa was a bad defeat, but we’ve already forgotten it. Every time this team has had difficulties, it has been able to relaunch itself in a very vigorous. We know it’s a good test of whether we can get out of this moment.”

Will you take the opportunity to talk to Roma about Zaniolo?

“We are focused on the match and on the season. The market is still open, even if we have already widely said that we don’t have particular needs and we continue to think this way. Then we’ll see if there will be opportunities between now and the end, but I think it will be very difficult.”

Is the team complete like this?

“We are absolutely convinced that we have a strong squad, a strong team and an excellent coach, able to compete at the highest level and to do so until the end. We are very serene about the value of this team. We are recovering many players who have had injuries and a good season finale awaits us.”
