Milan’s Bennacer says it ‘hurts a lot to lose like this’ after Chelsea defeat

AC Milan midfielder Ismael Bennacer has said that ‘it hurts a lot’ to lose in the way that the Rossoneri did against Chelsea on Wednesday night in the Champions League.

Speaking to Prime Video (via Milan News) after the match at Stamford Bridge which ended 3-0 to the Premier League side, Bennacer lamented the manner in which Milan lost the game as they put in one of their worst performances of the season so far when they needed a big performance.

“It hurts a lot to lose like this, we didn’t put the right spirit and desire. We know that the Champions League is at another level. We have to give more. It’s part of the game, we have to work on what we didn’t do well and raise our heads again.”

The team were lacking spirit and it was a performance that cannot be explained away with the injuries that Stefano Pioli had to contend with. Bennacer stressed that the players always try as hard as possible.

“We always try to give everything, games like this are played on details. We take the second goal and it’s hard… We lowered our heads a bit. We play on details, we have to do better and be more convinced.”

He was then asked if the Rossoneri need to work on their mentality following this match and he suggested that first they must analyse the game and see what happened.

“We have to review the game and see what we didn’t do well. It’s certain that in our heads we have to question ourselves all the time.”
