On Monday evening, Milan announced the departures of head coach Massimiliano Allegri, technical director Geoffrey Moncada, CEO Giorgio Furlani and the sporting director Igli Tare. Gerry Cardinale wasted no time in his managerial reboot after the loss to Cagliari condemned Milan to the Europa League.
Ayre and Congerton linked
According to what Gianluca Di Marzio told Sky and reported on his own website, the shake-up has begun at Milan and there are a couple of new names in the frame. As for the coaching position, Andoni Iraola remains the man in pole position, with whom discussions continue.
The news concerns the roles of CEO and director of the sporting area. The two men on the list include Ian Ayre, the current CEO of Nashville in MLS, and Lee Congerton, former sporting director of Al-Ahli who also worked with Atalanta in 2022.
It was actually reported almost one year to the day that Congerton was one of the leading names to become the new sporting director at Milan. He was the one who brought the likes of Ederson, Ademola Lookman and Rasmus Hojlund to Bergamo.
It was reported that Zlatan Ibrahimovic was heading to London to hold talks with Iraola. It is also possible that while in the English capital he could hold discussions with other candidates for the new hierarchy.
